About A Better Ending LLC

Dr. Jeff Komisarof, MD
Critical Care Physician and Nephrologist
A Better Ending was founded by Dr. Jeff Komisarof, MD. He studied biology with a concentration in genetics at Duke University, graduating summa cum laude in 1994. He was awarded a 21st Century Scholarship at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, graduating in 1999. He remained at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania for his internship and residency in internal medicine. He then completed nephrology and critical care medicine fellowships at the Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, OR. After completing his medical training, he practiced in both the intensive care unit setting and as a nephrologist in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
In 20 years of experience taking care of patients at the end of life, he realized that the advanced directives that patients had completed with their attorneys were almost entirely useless, as they addressed patients' wishes for the end of life in a very limited set of circumstances. He believes that decision making for the end of life should be performed by doctors with experience taking care of patients in these circumstances, and who understand that medical decision making is not black and white, but is complicated and nuanced. It is from this idea that A Better Ending was born.
